Commercial Affairs Executive

Commercial Affairs is part of the wider Media Rights department, working in conjunction with the Sales team and the Legal department and taking the lead on all commercial matters.

As UEFA’s exclusive commercial rights agency for club competitions, TEAM tenders the media rights to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League on a market-by-market basis, with the Commercial Affairs team managing the tender processes in each market. The Commercial Affairs team is involved at all phases of each tender process, from the discussions prior to the sales phase, the preparation of the tender documents to the contracting/negotiations phase. It is also the commercial interface with UEFA for all rights-related issues, including in relation to various emerging competitions such as the UEFA Youth League and UEFA Futsal Champions League.

The successful candidate will be working in a team of five people and would report to a Senior Commercial Affairs Executive in the Commercial Affairs team.

As the role requires engaging and influencing internal and external stakeholders, excellent written and spoken communication skills are essential. English at mother tongue level is therefore a pre-requisite.

THE ROLE
The main responsibilities of the role cover two areas:

Deal Processing
Ahead of market launches, assist in the preparation of tender documentation for markets and the review of market information presentations, ensuring compliance with applicable processes. During the tender processes, assist in the preparation of deal recommendations taking into account specific market dynamics. This will include being responsible for the analysis of the financial security proposed by bidders.

Project Management
Play a key role in the ongoing management of media rights deals, including by managing broadcasters’ requests for programming and contractual variations, as well as requests for public screening rights. Ensure consistency and accuracy in preparing and maintaining rights holder overviews. As the scope of the role includes supporting the day-to-day operations of the Commercial Affairs and Sales teams, it is vital that you are flexible and willing to dive into different projects. To that end, strong self-motivation and a proactive approach is required to liaise with various departments, including Insights, Finance and Strategy, to obtain important market information, track the data behind all deals and market closings, and deliver a financial status report each month.

THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate would have approximately 2 years of experience with knowledge of, and an active interest in, media rights. TEAM is looking to hire from within the media, legal, financial and/or sports marketing industry.

The following would also be necessary:
  • Excellent understanding of the sports and broadcast industry
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong financial acumen
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to establish relationships internally and externally at all levels
  • Confident working-style to thrive in a high-pressure environment during negotiations of high value media rights deals
  • Ability to negotiate with expert knowledge and credible commercial arguments
